Enameled Metal Earrings with Pearls, Copper Metalwork with Kiln-fired Enamel Color and Pearls, Atmosphere Series, Twilight Dark Blue

My "Atmosphere Series" has been ongoing for almost 3 years now, and is fresh and original. A lovely white pearl suggests the moon and the dark blue and coppery ombre suggest twilight. The domed copper oval has been repeatedly coated with fine glass particles that are bonded to copper under high heat. Vitreous enamels are permanent, durable, fade proof, & waterproof.

Total length of the earrings, measured from the top of the ear wire, is about 1 1/2". The character of these pieces is a bit rustic and the cleaned copper edges serve to "frame" the fragment of skyscape I was striving to evoke.

The metal discs, 1 1/4" x 7/8" each, are domed to cradle a pearl and to dangle from my hand formed oxidized silver ear wires. Colors and glossy surface are achieved through multiple firings to between 1450 and 1500 degrees F. The backs are counter enameled with a very dark blue as is used on the front of each metal disk.

All taken together, this design is meant to evoke that magical time at twilight when the light is fading and the dark is falling--creating a backdrop for a glowing full moon. They are my original design, done here in a new edition of 3, with subtle natural variations, but each very similar. This is the last pair of earrings in this edition. An earlier version is shown on a model for scale.
