Female Cardinal Jewelry, Copper Enamel Bird Art Pin, Enameled Stick Pin for Birders, Unisex Gift Nature Inspired, Handmade Original OOAK

The female Cardinal-equally elegant with her touches of red brightening up her tendency towards a camouflage appearance. Designed after the inquiry of a WillOaksStudio customer for a female pin to pair with her red male bird. There is only one ready to ship-additional female birds could be made to order. Excellent to add a fun shot of color to a jacket, hat, bag, etc. Perfect as an affordable & unique gift for nature lovers, bird watchers, and even the mascot for a few sports teams (like my junior high school & the St Louis NFL team when I lived there!) As I was making these, I learned that the cardinal is also the state bird for Indiana (also for Illinois, which I knew!)

Made by hand in my studio using multiple layers of hot glass enamel on the front & back of copper shapes (vitreous enamels), & multiple firings in a small kiln. After each is finished being fired & all cleaned up, I create a brass stick pin for each, designed to epoxy to the back. Vintage brass clutches were found to add to the pointed end. Stick pin is about 2.75” long and total is about 3” tall when parts are attached.

Vitreous enamel is the ancient art of manipulating colored glass powders & bits onto a metal base (copper here) and repeatedly heating it in a kiln from 1400F to 1500F to melt the glass and bond it to the metal. The back of each pin is counter enameled in black.

Please keep in mind that monitors and screens may show different colors from the objects themselves.
